An American Craftsman explores the life and work of Wharton Esherick (1887-1970) a painter and furniture maker who came of age during the Industrial Revolution. At a time when America was enamored with consumerism and mass industry, Wharton moved to a small farm outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and began making sculptural wood furniture one piece at a time.
Recognized as one of the forefathers of the American Studio Craft Furniture movement, Wharton left behind a legacy of not only beautiful wood furniture but also a dedication to a unique design for living that would influence thousands of other makers.
The film enjoyed an international festival run concluding with the 2019 Newport Beach Film Festival and received a Best Director nod at the Amsterdam International Filmmaker Festival.
